"Bahumi and His Magical Voice" is a heartfelt theatre production for young audiences. It celebrates the boy child and the power of emotional expression. The play challenges harmful ideas about masculinity and creates a safe space for boys to speak, feel, and be heard.![]()

Within it, ideas have taken shape before I had the courage to name them. Essays, scripts, dreams… all born from late nights, doubt, and relentless persistence.![]()

It has turned my fear into research, my pain into poetry, and my imagination into something real.![]()

I open it, and I remember...![]()
I am capable of creating worlds. And they, in turn, are creating me.![]()

I am both the creator and the creation.🥹
Back in 2022, a 10 minute version of my script in development, "And ...Action", was selected for Teksmark. It was such a special opportunity to test the work in front of an audience and producers from across South Africa. On that platform, the script was then chosen for the KKNK Lucky Pakkie showcase, a fun format where audiences watch four 15 minute performances in an hour. To our surprise and joy, it was warmly received by what we had always thought would be a more conservative KKNK audience.![]()

I came home feeling inspired and ready to take it further. Not so long ago , I got the news that the full version has been selected to be showcased at the South African State Theatre later this year as part of the Vavasati International Festival.![]()

Like any script, we had our first reading last week and quickly saw that there is still work to do to make it as strong as it can be.![]()

I feel so grateful for my incredible team. My director, Dion Van Niekerk , and my co-star, Rondo Mpiti-Spies, have been honest and thoughtful in their feedback, and I value that so much.![]()

I am now reworking the script, trying out new ideas and directions. It is a nerve wracking process, but it is also exciting and deeply rewarding.![]()

We have another reading in a few days and I cannot wait. There is something about hearing your work out loud that brings a whole new level of clarity.![]()

I wish more writers felt comfortable with this fragile stage of the process, when the work is stripped down and all its flaws are visible. It is not easy, but it is where the real growth happens.
For me, the greatest compliment is being called back by the same people I have worked with. It means the work mattered. It means the impact stayed.![]()

In my masterclasses, I always remind others: treat every moment like it counts, like it could shape your future, like it could open the door to your next opportunity.![]()

Because the truth is, it does.![]()
![]()
And moments like these remind me why I do what I do.
Tragedy once pushed me toward the arts because I needed somewhere to breathe. I needed a way to carry what felt too heavy. Today, art has become my home, and I use it to help others find comfort, release, and hope in their own journeys.![]()

I remain a woman from the dusty streets of Botshabelo, holding onto purpose, doing what I can to shift lives, one story at a time.![]()

I have been seen beyond these borders, and I am grateful. But there is something deeply special about being recognised at home. It reminds me who I am, where I come from, and why I began.
